In-Person Experiences
Learning online is an amazing resource for many students and families. However, in our efforts to build connection and community, Jamie York Academy is now offering select in-person experiences for students. Join us for high school main lessons, graduation ceremonies, and middle school summer camps for the whole family. Upcoming Summer In-Person Experiences
Graduation Weekend (High School Adventure Camp) – Summer 2026
- Graduation weekend will take place directly after the astronomy course, 12th graders will gather in-person to celebrate their graduation milestone. This is a great opportunity to meet your friends in-person, share meals together, and enjoy three days of fun activities in the Colorado mountains.
- Students in grades 10-11 (and recent graduates!) are also encouraged to join us for all the activities, and then witness the graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 31.
- Students may attend either on their own, or with their families.
- Dates: Arrive on May 29 and depart on June 1.
- Location: Paonia, CO
Middle School Adventure Camp – Summer 2026
- During the camp, Academy families are invited join us for a week of adventures in the mountains of Colorado. The activities include hiking, climbing, and rafting.
- This is an excellent opportunity to meet friends from the Academy and build community.
- Although this in-person experience is intended for those students in grades 5-9, families are certainly welcome to bring older and younger siblings.
- Dates: Arrive on July 12 and depart on July 17
- Location: Paonia, CO
Land Surveying – Summer 2026
- While many traditional tasks and occupations have become obsolete with the advancement of machines and technology, it remains valuable to learn how this modern world actually works. Surveying, the science of accurately locating points on the earth for the purpose of making maps, serves as an excellent example of how mathematics and technology can be applied in the modern world.
- The lessons will integrate math, technology, geography and nature’s outdoor classroom, to enliven learning and build lifelong relationships with peers and teachers. During these three weeks, we will connect by working, studying, preparing meals, hiking, and sharing stories with the backdrop of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
- Dates: June 8th to June 27th
- Location: Paonia, CO
- More details about this three-week course will be available in late 2025.
Marine Biology in Guatemala – June 2027
More details to come!
Boat Building in India – Summer 2028
- For the first three weeks the students will be immersed in a main lesson on Engines and Boats in Hyderabad, India. The students will learn about the inner working of a combustion engine, and most importantly, learn how to build a boat. Then, the students (in groups of five) will build their own boat. Finally, they will take their boats to a lake in South India, and use their boats for three days.
- This trip is organized by Jayesh Narasimhulu, a personal friend of Jamie, who teaches science in Waldorf schools, organizes teacher workshops, and coordinates amazing student experiential courses (like this one).
- After the boatbuilding course is completed, the students will spend a week traveling together to see a bit of India
