In-Person Experiences

Learning online is an amazing resource for many students and families. However, in our efforts to build connection and community, Jamie York Academy is now offering select in-person experiences for students. Join us for high school main lessons, graduation ceremonies, and middle school summer camps for the whole family. These are all great opportunities to meet the friends you have made during our online classes.

Check out all of our upcoming in-person experiences below.

Upcoming In-Person Main Lessons

Land Surveying

Surveying, the science of accurately locating points on the earth for the purpose of making maps, serves as an excellent example of how mathematics and technology can be applied in the modern world. This in-person main lesson will transport students into the magical world of numbers, geometry, and map-making during three weeks of fieldwork and classroom sessions.

Academic year offered:

Botany: in Nature and in Farming

Join us for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade Botany in the small farming community of Rutland, Ohio. Study the plants of Appalachia by experiencing their habitat, morphology, and uses. Come get into the woods, get your hands in the dirt, and get the plants in you.

Academic year offered:

Astronomy

Astronomy has shaped and guided the development of math and science perhaps more than any other field. Through this four-week course, we will become familiar with the motions of the sun, moon, stars, and neighboring planets through the sky, and gain an understanding of what they teach us about our place in the Cosmos.

Land Surveying – Summer 2026

  • While many traditional tasks and occupations have become obsolete with the advancement of machines and technology, it remains valuable to learn how this modern world actually works.  Surveying, the science of accurately locating points on the earth for the purpose of making maps, serves as an excellent example of how mathematics and technology can be applied in the modern world.
  • The lessons will integrate math, technology, geography and nature’s outdoor classroom, to enliven learning and build lifelong relationships with peers and teachers. During these three weeks, we will connect by working, studying, preparing meals, hiking, and sharing stories with the backdrop of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
  • Dates: June 8th to June 27th
  • Location: Paonia, CO
  • More details about this three-week course will be available in late 2025.

Boat Building in India – Summer 2028

  • For the first three weeks the students will be immersed in a main lesson on Engines and Boats in Hyderabad, India. • This trip is organized by Jayesh Narasimhulu, a personal friend of Jamie, who teaches science in Waldorf schools, organizes teacher workshops, and coordinates amazing student experiential courses (like this one).
  • After the boatbuilding course is completed, the students will spend a week traveling together to see a bit of India
