Course Description
Continuing our study of topics from grade 6, we expand on our observations and discoveries. We investigate how these phenomena shape our experience of everyday life. We continue to ask ourselves: “What is REALLY happening here?”, as well as “How do we know?” as we strive to define concepts that are quite difficult to explain. At the end of this block, we turn our attention from our senses to the mechanics of our physical world. We focus on the six basic machines. Students observe how they enhance and enable humans to move and perform work. We play with the relationship between degree of exertion and mechanical advantage of these machines, especially regarding the complex machines on which we depend. This particular physics block embodies a lively balance of playful inventiveness, engineering, and some mathematical thinking.
